YouthReach is a voluntary organisation, staffed by volunteers. David Silva joined the team at the end of 2012. With 10 years of experience as a youth counselor, David has a real heart for the teens at Diepsloot Combined.
Recently one of the teens wrote David a letter to thank him for saving her. In her letter, she said that she was at the point of ending her life when David came to talk to her. It was at the bench in the middle of the school, where he told her about Gods great love for her, no matter what difficult situation she found herself in. With tears in her eyes, she held David’s hands while he prayed for her to receive strength to get through this difficult time in her life. She just did not understand how David knew about her troubles. She could not thank him enough for being there for her, when no one else could see her pain.
It was due to David’s dedication and attention to detail, that he noticed that her head down in every SCM, was a sign of depression. He also found her anonymous prayer request and connected the dots. Most importantly, David's close connection to our Father lead him to find her on that bench the very day she was at the end of her rope. He recognized the cry of a 17 year old girl ready to end her life.
